St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport (PIE): Approximate driving time is 27 minutes and distance is 12 miles. Driving directions from Tampa International: Follow signs to take N Memorial Hwy to SR 60 west. Continue on SR 60 for about 17 miles. At the roundabout, take the third exit to Coronado Dr. Turn right on Hamden Dr, then turn left on S Gulfview Blvd, which becomes Gulf Blvd. The hotel is on the right after about 1 mile. Driving directions from St Petersburg/Clearwater: Turn right onto Roosevelt Blvd, then continue straight on E Bay Dr. After about 7 miles, turn right on Gulf Blvd. The hotel is on the left after about 2.5 miles. Getting there: The best option from either airport is a shuttle van ($16–25; fees subject to change without notice), or a rental car. Getting around: A beach trolley (less than $5; fees subject to change without notice) operates along Gulf Boulevard and connects to bus lines throughout the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area. Taxis are available for short trips around the area, or guests can rent a car.

All 390 rooms in this nine-story resort feature the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed, with a custom-designed, extra-thick, plush-top mattress dressed with three sheets, fleece blankets, plump duvet in rich colors, and five goose down/feather pillows. The furniture is light maple. All rooms have safes, Hansgrohe showerheads, bathrobes, and 27-inch TV with Nintendo console. All rooms have sliding glass doo that open to a private furnished balcony or patio. Microwave ovens and refrigerators can be requested, for a fee. High-speed Internet access available as of January 2004.

Rusty’s - Casual elegance with international specialties and Florida favorites, such as mustard-crusted salmon, lamb shank, or lollipop pork chop (caramelized shallots, balsamic demi-glacé, and fruit salsa), along with seafood and shellfish, steaks, pasta, and vegetarian selections. The menu also includes appetizers such as fois gras, crab cakes, and shrimp cocktail. Breakfast and dinner. Island Grill - Light fare, including shrimp scampi, vegetarian quesadilla, or the guilt-free burger (char-grilled burger with grilled tomato, salsa, cottage cheese, and chipotle tortilla). Blue Water - Poolside spot serving fresh sandwiches, beverages, snacks, and convenience items, 24 hours daily. Mainstay Tavern - Cool drinks, evening entertainment Tuesday through Sunday, billiards, darts, and a big-screen TV. Desserts are a specialty: serious chocolate cake, fresh berry shortcake, and a meringue torte.

What to expect: The bright lobby has recessed lighting, table lamps, wall sconces, and hanging fixtures, all illuminating the conversational table and chair groupings. Families gather before their outings and conventioneers meet before and after their business sessions. Amenity highlights: Guests may use the outdoor splash pool, children’s pool, and playground, beach games, a fitness center with sauna, steam rooms, and two massage treatments. Bikes, boats, and jet skis can be rented, and tennis and beach volleyball are on site. Insider tip: The hotel is adjacent to 95-acre Sand Key Park, which has two picnic shelters with grills, a playground, and a dog park. The beach area has cabana rentals, beach wheelchairs, outdoor showers, boardwalks, and bathhouses, and a lifeguard is on duty daily. Heron, roseate spoonbills, and great horned owls visit regularly.
